Students were invited to participate in a day-long paper making workshop with artist Ross Hamilton Frew.
Having undertaken a sixteen-month-long residency with Northumbria University’s PSN facility Frew shared the techniques he gathered during this period, working with a variety of recyclable materials such as books, newspapers and other paper sources.
Participants were invited to bring a selection of recyclable (natural) materials in order to make their own unique paper stock. Experimentation was a key component to this workshop, with an emphasis on material play rather than a final product. Participants were encouraged to share their results with their peers in order to gain a greater understanding of the materials used.
There was also the opportunity to engage in a series short form poetry techniques using the text from some of the destroyed material.
